My site is hosted on a Win2K server. I created the site with FP98 and maintain it with FP2K. When I first started with the hosting company, my site which has FP2K discussion boards, mail handler forms, ASP pages and an Access data_base_ ran well, for about 3 weeks before the problems started. First sign of problems ahead was when connecting to the server with FP2k became a slower and slower ordeal. Finally it just gave up and gave errors saying that FP extensions were not installed. Each time I tried to connect I'd get a different error! Problems would then compound as the discussions forums and mail handler forms would all stop working. To compound the horror scene, the ASP pages would start refusing to load, if the tech support were slow to fix the problem in the beginning. Once they fixed the problem the site would run perfectly. For about another 3 weeks before the same problems would start all over again.  I'd have to go through the same old procedure with phone calls and trouble tickets to get my site up and running properly again. Incidentally, it 's not working properly as I write.  I've been hosting with the host company about 10 months. I'm on the phone with them every few weeks in a constant attempt to keep my site running efficiently.  They always tell me they need to reinstall FP extensions and reboot the server. They then go into a rave telling me that the problem is with Microsoft's software. They say that FP extensions and WIN2k are no good.  They say they're always having problems with Win2K servers. When I first began hosting with them they moved my site to another server. They must have used WS_FTP to make the move as I found WS_FTP log files in all my folders. Could that move have an everlasting effect? I have enough work keeping my site up to date with the constant changes I need to make, let alone do constant battle with a hosting company. I dream of the day (if ever) that my site can run at a profit and I can have my own server, in my office, at my home and not have to beg someone else to keep my site up and running for me. All my friends tell me to move to a Unix server and run cgi and Perl. Is there a solution to all this misery? Please don't tell me to move to another host. This is my 3rd host in 4 years, all gave about the same problems. Who is to blame the hosting company or Microsoft. Kerry

Generally speaking, in a case such as this: 1) The host is inexperienced. 2) The host is running too many web sites on limited applications. 3) The FP server extensions are becoming corrupt.  Very hard to diagnose, but normally caused by individual accounts doing something wrong, such as trying to FTP to accounts instead of publish, etc. Under the circumstances, it is generally acknowledge that you need to change hosts. IMHO.

hosts. Thanks for the quick and informative feedback folks. Can just one account holder on a Win2000 server corrupt the extensions of the whole server by using FTP instead of publish?  The host company I'm with is on the cheaper end of the scale compared to many of the others I see on the market. They're perfect  as long as you don't decide to let your site get too fancy it seems. I'm thinking of finding the best Win2000 host possible (most expensive) and use them just to run my discussion forums, form mail,  ASP pages  and the data_base_. Any suggestions welcome, anyone else here done anything like that? Thanks Again Kerry
