It is the last three classses that cause problems.  These groups by design do not get any followups (A 4-article thread every 2 weeks can save a discussion newsgroup).  But there are other attributes that these last 3 classes share.  There is usually more effort and thought in the creation of the articles.  The articles are fewer but *longer*. So how about this metric: if the median article is greater than 50 lines in length of original, non-quoted material, then the required level of posting is 5000 lines of such material in a year (i.e. 100 times 50 lines in a year). Why not just use different metrics for the different kinds of groups? Wouldn't that be simpler?
