Just wondering if anyone has tried the new kodak all-in-one printers with Linux. I e-mailed Kodak, and of course, got a line about no linux support and a bunch of B.S. about USB not working properly with Linux. What you have encountered is the total stupidity of monolithic corporate marketing departments. They will assimilate or die. It is not our problem. Take that POS back and get a refund, and check out other brands first. HP and Brother work fairly well. Check out the CUPS website to be certain for your chosen model. I understand that. I'm currently using a Brother HL1440 laser and an Epson Stylus Photo R320 - both work fine, and both checked out before I purchase. Just trying to find out if anyone has tried the Kodak all-in-ones. I seem to recall from the web page that it does indeed mention mac as well as ms - a good sign, but certainly not definitive. The only Kodak printers in the CUPS menu on Fedora 7 are the Digisource 9110 (which is Post_script_) and the IS 70 CPII (which is also Post_script_), so it doesn't look good. I'd stick to HP if I were you. I'll probably stick with the Epson R320 I have now. I was curious to see since Kodak claims the cost of consummables on their new line is about 1/2 of the competition. If you do a lot of printing get a Laser, if you don't the cost of the ink isn't that bad. I'm using an HP 6110 all in one, it does scanning and FAX, everything works perfectly under Linux (All HPs are completely supported). I go through a couple of cartridges a year so it's not that expensive. I stopped printing documents years ago, Acrobat is so much better than paper that printed documents aren't necessary anymore. I don't print photos, if that's what you want to do then the cost of ink will matter. The Kodak printer is supposed to have some advantages for pictures but it doesn't look like they have any intentions of supporting Linux so they shouldn't be considered by Linux users when there are so many fully supported printers to choose from. I have a laser: Brother HL1440. Works quite well, thank you. Been printing for about 2.5 years now on the first cartridge. Don't expect Kodak to support Linux. But, I notice that their site mentions MAC as well as MS - that's a good sign. Just trying to find out if anyone has tried. I'm not expecting to replace my Epon Stylus Photo R320 anytime soon.

Macs use CUPs, in fact Apple owns CUPs now, so if the MAC is supported then it should work with Linux. You might have to grab the ppd file. It might be nice if someone tried the experiment.
