So what are some of your this doesn't work, but I want it! products? Shoes. <sigh There's a minor rant-within-a-rant about this in the even-more-off-topic thread that spawned from the off-topic thread about cats and litter boxes, but I have foot and leg problems that mean wearing anything not more-or-less combat-boot or Doc-ish (i.e. wide toes and at least ankle-high) is really just out of the question. But I feel so self-concious about it at job interviews( if you think it's not a huge issue with the majority of employers, just try it) that I keep buying and forcing my feet into dress shoes that I not only can't walk in, I literally can't walk unassisted for two or three days *after* I've got out of them. And of course, after the things cause me so much pain I never want in them again, but damned if I don't go buy another pair for the next interview. It's stupid, I know, but I just don't know what else to do... Does anyone have any suggestions on footwear that is socially acceptable to corporate dickheads and yet matches the above requirements? Preferably not mind-blowingly expensive, though I'm pretty sure that's an impossibility... If it helps explain the problem, my feet are extremely triangular, about 4 1/2 inches across the toe and 1 1/2 inches across the heel and only six inches long, and my ankles just seem to need a lot of support

For example: Glitter polishes with hearts and stars in them. They just don't work! The hearts and stars pop off, you can't get more than one or two of them on your nail at any given time, and they're sloppy. I've never had luck with any of these polishes, yet every time I see a bottle, I want it. I want glitter star nails! But it doesn't work. I usually dip into the polish with the brush and place them on my nails. I'm not sure if it's more time consuming than placing loose glittery hearts/stars on my nails or not, but it does get them to stick. I just can't find a way to make them not peel up. They do so no matter how many top coats I put over them. =( Zev.

Does anyone have any suggestions on footwear that is socially acceptable to corporate dickheads and yet matches the above requirements? first off, i'm one of those 'corporate dickheads', being an HR manager... and yes, a clean and neat appearance does matter. that being said, it certainly makes a difference as to in what industry the job is in... i'm in IT, so it's definitely not a 'suit/dress shirt/skirt n pumps' environment here... some suggestions: can you wear doc 'dress shoes', i.e., maryjanes? what about 'dressier' ankle boots? do you have an orthopedist that you go to? s/he would prolly be able to recommend a company that makes not-so-ugly orthopedic shoes... i know that orthopedic shoes are expensive; perhaps investing in one pair that are your 'interview'/'dress-up' shoe that you don't wear that often? hth di personal: http://www.mtholyoke.edu/~dbono eBay: http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/dionysia Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/

Does anyone have any suggestions on footwear that is socially acceptable to corporate dickheads and yet matches the above requirements? Preferably not mind-blowingly expensive, though I'm pretty sure that's an I don't know about the ankle support part, but Birkenstock makes a beautiful shoe that is very comfortable and goes everywhere. It's called the Annapolis, and you can find it at www.birkenstock.com in the Shoes section. Hmm. The site only seems to have the mocha suede version...but there is a black patent-ish looking version (I'm wearing mine right now). The downside is that they *are* very expensive, but on the other hand, they're definitely very high-quality and high comfort. http://www.birkenstock.com/cgi-bin/productList.py? action=name&user_id=0&store_id=0&name=42&select= 431051&line=0&gender=0&category=10&material= 0&subcategory=0&lMaterial=0&lColor=0 (cut and paste URL onto one line; or just hit www.birkenstock.com and drill down through their Shoes menu) Good luck! -klk

it! The platform glitter boots from C-6 were fun but just not me! :0 ) Rhonda and I were seperated at birth, obviously. I remember I found some *brand new* 7 heel black patent platform boots at a local consignment store for $30. I bought them, brought them home, and then ... looked at them. I wore them out exactly once, teetered around all evening, and decided that I didn't want to spend that much time thinking about walking. Same thing goes for regular high-heeled shoes or boots. If the heel is taller than 2.5 , I can't wear it. But that doesn't stop me from looking longingly at those sorts of shoes, and thinking, well, maybe *this* pair will be different! The other product I keep looking at (and sometimes buying) when I shouldn't is black or other dark, heavily pigmented eyeshadows. I know by now that I just can't apply them properly. I know that they make me look like a drunken drag queen. But I still stop and go, ooooh. Black eyeshadow with purple sparklies in it! -Jilli, a white eyeshadow girl Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/
